Early Cairns & Brother Leather Fire Helmet w/Two Metal Manufactures Tags

Up for bid is the early Cairns & Brother Leather Fireman's Helmet. This helmet measures 14¼ inches from front to back and also measures about 6½ inches tall. From a local estate sale, this hat has two metal manufacturer's tags, one in the very top that appears to be brass and is marked "CAIRNS & BRO    143 GRAND ST. N.Y.    IMPROVED VENTILATED HAT" and a second tag mounted under the front brim and marked "CAIRNS & BROTHER    143 GRAND ST. NEW YORK" and appears to be brass covered in paint. This helmet has seen lots of use but appears to be in good working order for its time. The helmet has C. Bentley hand written on the sweat band and weighs in at 12.5 ounces on my postal scales.
