Description
Offered for sale is an uncut label (likely from a strip of several uncut round labels), from about 1856, for the top of a round wooden box (birch, I believe), which would have contained "Dr. Chilton's Fever and Ague Cure" pills, manufactured by Comstock & Brother, New York. Each box cost .00.
The quack medicine company Comstock and Brother was founded in 1853 and spent a lot of time in court fighting charges of inventing Dr. Chilton, which of course they had. The brothers parted ways in 1863.
The label measures about 1.5 by 1.5 inches (4 x 4 cm).
